How to use this Christmas crossword

The last week before winter break is long, and a crossword keeps hands busy and heads thinking. This one sticks to familiar holiday words and clues children can reason out, like the striped sweet shaped like a hook. Nothing here uses character or movie names, so it works in any classroom, at a family party or in a care home activity hour.

1. Look over the clue list. Delete anything you would rather skip and add your own, one "answer: clue" per line.
2. Answers with two words, like candy cane, are fine: the clue shows the letter counts so solvers know where the break goes.
3. Turn on the word bank for younger children, or leave it off for a real challenge.
4. Print the puzzle and its answer key, or save both pages as one PDF.

Tips

• For mixed ages, print one copy with the word bank and one without, then let each child choose.
